Wood Descriptions

Cachimbo

Cachimbo is a lighter to rosy colored wood. It has a wavy grain that accepts stain very well. Although not as hard as most of our woods, it has good durability and refractive qualities.

Capirona

Capirona is a lighter colored wood with easy grain characteristics. Its color is compared to white oak. It is very easy to stain and finishes well and is sometimes used in furniture and doors.

Cumaru

Cumaru is both dark and light in color with a heavy grain and great refractive qualities. It is several times harder than domestic oak. It can be used as decking and is impervious to water. It is a great floor to resist wear and still show the beauty of natural wood. As decking no chemicals are needed.

Cumaru Herringbone

Cumaru Herringbone is the durable and beautiful Cumaru cut in the spainish traditional parquette. And it is tongue and groove on sides and ends.

Dark Huayruro

Dark Huayruro is a dark amber wood with a heavy tangled grain. It lends itself to a rustic look and is wear resistant being harder than hard maple.

Light Huayruro

Light Huayruro has a light but defined linear grain and is some times called “Castania” it is medium in color and accepts stains very well.

Peruvian Cherry (Quinilla)

Peruvian Cherry (Quinilla) is only slightly less hard than Cumaru. It is dark and rich in color, leaning to slightly redish. The grain is linear. It can be polished to a high shene. It also can be used as decking and no chemicals are needed. A sub species of this wood is called Massaranduba, it has the same colors but a darker “hair” or grain.

Peruvian Olive

Peruvian Olive is very light green in color with a coarser grain and dark to black steaks caused by minerals that the tree absorbs. In some areas it is used as decking.

Peruvian Teak

Peruvian Teak is a brown, heavily grained wood that shows gold swirls and scarlet drops and/or streaks. It is one of the most beautiful woods that we have seen. Each board has its own character and is warming to the eye.

Peruvian Teak Natural

Peruvian Teak Natural is the same warm brown wood as Peruvian Teak. But the outer layer of lighter colored wood is left on the boards. It has marked contrast with the same character of Peruvian Teak.

Pumaquiro

Pumaquiro is maple in color with dark and light gentle contrast. It is harder than domestic hard maple and is durable and resistant to heavy foot traffic. It is used often in public and municiple projects in South America.

Santos Mahagony

Santos Mahagony is, as the spainish name (Incencia Rojo) Implys, is a red aromatic wood with a fragrance similar to domestic Cedar. It has a distinctive grain that is enhanced by light refraction of the minerals that the tree has absorbed.

Tiger Wood

Tiger Wood is a light brown to tan colored wood, with random streaks of varying darker colors. It is very stable and has lots of character. The grain is medium and the wood has very good light refraction.
